Thanksgiving: Soul to Soul

Thanksgiving: Soul to Soul

Soul to Soul

Do you know there were Americans and African-Americans who long time( in 20-s and 30-s) ago traveled to Russia for a job opportunity during the Depression? Some of them returned back to America and some stayed. This story about a family which stayed. Why? Do you know what could of happen to the people in those times of old if one of them were White and another Black? Read the book to find out that there were other reasons for concern too. You the readers are the Lucky ones to have an opportunity to purchase and read this book, because people in Russia can't!-- I checked it out.

Not only is this book very interesting to read it is also a true life story that gives inspiration, hope and courage to the many blacks that are faced with having to live with the many ignorant stereotypes about who they are and where they belong.
This book is recommended as a must read by all without regards to their race, colour, class or religion. It is an enlightenment which gives testimony to the fact that my black brothers and sisters in Europe are still struggling with popular worldwide beliefs that all blacks do speak the same language.  Sadly enough, many whom are considered to be outsiders are scorned and rejected, by other blacks whenever they try to learn more about their own black culture.

Collectively speaking, on a community level these attitudes, or behaviours towards one another must first be addressed, or looked at more seriously in order for everyone to accommodate the positive changes desperately  needed for us all to move forward in a more respectful manner. http://www.amazon.com/

The Innocent Man

The Innocent Man: Murder and Injustice in a Small Town

http://www.amazon.com/

Innocent until proven guilty is the way most cases should read, but after reading this book it would help those of us that are often too quick to judge someone without knowing all of the facts first to realize that when it comes to law and order the proper procedures must be followed, and the procedures state that a man is innocent until he is proven guilty in a court of law.

On the contrary, sometimes even an innocent man is sent to death row for committing a crime that he did not commit.

Impeccably researched, grippingly told, filled with eleventh-hour drama, John Grisham’s first work of nonfiction reads like a page-turning legal thriller. It is a book that will terrify anyone who believes in the presumption of innocence—a book no American can afford to miss.

The innocent man is a true story based on a murder mystery and injustice in a small town. It tells the story about how Ron Williamson was arrested and charged with a crime that he did not commit. It also tells about how this innocent man was sent to death row because of how his case was mishandled.

Corruption has no place in the justice system, yet it somehow manages to scar many victims when false witnesses tell lies rather than coming clean to just tell the Truth. This kind of testimony is rather frustrating, time consuming and very costly for the legal teams who have to always prepare to do battle in the best interest of their clientele.

On behalf of the clients, victims, or the perpetrators of a crime I ask that the readers of this book keep in mind that justice had been served at all cost..."The cost of an Innocent Man"  http://www.amazon.com/

Thanksgiving: Potluck Supper

Thanksgiving: Potluck Supper

Potluck Supper

What is a potluck?

A potluck is a gathering of people where each person or group of people contributes a dish of food prepared by the person or the group of people, to be shared among the group. Having a potluck is a great way to build a community. It is an excellent way for the members to participate and share their favourite foods with each other.

Organizing Your Potluck Party

Although the term "potluck" suggests a random assortment of dishes, it's likely to turn out better when the host does a little bit of organizing. If you don't want to risk the chance that all of your guests will bring only desserts, begin by assigning your guests a specific course to bring along. Next, ask each guest to commit to a general category of food even if they're not prepared to tell you the exact recipe. After all, as much as I love brownies, five plates of brownies wouldn't give much variety to your potluck and there would be a lot of leftovers!

The Host
  • When you're the host, remember to dig out extra serving platters, baskets, and utensils before your guests arrive. Not everyone brings food ready to be served. You don't want to be distracted from your guests because you're pulling things out of your attic or cabinets.
  • Don't forget that someone needs to be responsible for beverages. The host can supply them, or ask everyone to bring something they would like to drink with their dish.
  • As host you can choose what your contribution will be. If enough people are coming, providing the location for the party and the dinnerware can be enough. Sometimes the host will stock the bar with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks including juices, water and soft drinks.
  • Often the host will provide the main course such as mash potatoes, a turkey, hamburgers on the grill, or an egg casserole (depending on the time of the party) and ask guests to bring side dishes and desserts. It's really up to you based on the size of your guest list.

Food Suggestions

Whether you're hosting the potluck or are simply invited to attend one, here are suggestions for the kind of dishes that work best.
  • All dishes should be prepared in advance.
  • Nobody should do more in the kitchen than pop something in the oven for reheating. The dishes should be easy to transport. I don't recommend a soufflé unless it's prepared by the host.
  • If there are many people attending the party, the serving size of each dish does not need to equal the number of guests. Everybody will take only a small portion of each dish when there are many from which to choose.
  • Traditional potluck dishes include casseroles, chili, bar cookies, salads and breads.
  • Recipes don't need to be fancy. Dishes that have been handed down through the generations are often the most popular.
  • If you're looking for a new recipe to try at your next potluck, here are several excellent collections to start you on your way to potluck fame.

Thanksgiving: Air Canada Express Service

Air Canada Express Service

Air Canada Jazz

About Jazz
Jazz is Canada’s airline
We operate more flights and fly to more Canadian destinations than any other carrier. We are the only airline serving 10 provinces and 2 territories. As an integral part of Air Canada’s strategy and North American market presence, Jazz provides service to and from many smaller communities in Canada and the United States under the brand name Air Canada Express. As well, we operate to larger centres at off-peak times as a complement to Air Canada’s schedule.

Jazz is not a typical airline. We have a commercial agreement with Air Canada that is the core of our business. Under the Capacity Purchase Agreement (CPA), Air Canada purchases substantially all of Jazz’s seat capacity based on predetermined rates. In reality, we are a contract carrier for Air Canada and operate our flights on their behalf. The CPA provides commercial flexibility and connecting network traffic to Air Canada, while significantly reducing Jazz’s financial and business risks.

In 2010, Jazz signed a five-year agreement with Thomas Cook Canada Inc. to operate B757-200s from Canadian gateways to various sun destinations for the winter season (November to April) under the brand name Thomas Cook Canada.

Thanksgiving: Joke of the Day

Thanksgiving: Joke of the Day

Joke of the Day

Spaghetti
A wealthy man was having an affair with an Italian woman for a few years.
One night, during one of their rendezvous, she confided in him that she was pregnant.
Not wanting to ruin his reputation or his marriage, he paid her a large sum of money if she would go to Italy to have the child. If she stayed in Italy,
he would also provide child support until the child turned 18.
She agreed, but wondered how he would know when the baby was born. To keep it discrete, he told her to mail him a post card, and write "Spaghetti" on the back. He would then arrange for child support.
One day, about 9 months later, he came home to his confused wife.
"Honey," she said, "you received a very strange post card today."
"Oh, just give it to me and I'll explain it later," he said.
The wife obeyed, and watched as her husband read the card, turned white, and fainted.
On the card was written "Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti. Two with meatballs, one without."

Second Opinion
A doctor and his wife are having a fight at the breakfast table. Husband gets up in a rage and says, "And you are no good in bed either," and storms out of the house. After sometime he realizes he was nasty and decides to make amends and calls home.
She comes to the phone after many rings and the irritated husband says, "What took you so long to answer the phone?"
She says, "I was in bed."
"In bed this early, doing what?" Shouts the doctor.
"Getting a second opinion!"

I Want to Kill My Husband
A lady walks into the drug store and asks the druggist for some arsenic.
The druggist asks "Ma'am, what do you want with arsenic?".
The lady replies "I want to kill my husband."
"I can't sell you any for that reason" says the druggist.
The lady then reaches into her purse and pulls out a photo of a man and a women in a compromising position - the man is her husband and the lady is the druggist's wife - and shows it to the druggist.
He looks at the photo and says... "Oh I didn't know you had a prescription!"

Thanksgiving: Tropical Rainforest

Thanksgiving: Tropical Rainforest

Tropical Rainforest

Tropical Rainforest

The tropical rainforest is a hot, moist biome found near Earth's equator. The world's largest tropical rainforests are in South America, Africa, and Southeast Asia. Tropical rainforests receive from 60 to 160 inches of precipitation that is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year. The combination of constant warmth and abundant moisture makes the tropical rainforest a suitable environment for many plants and animals.

Ideal Environment

Tropical rainforests contain the greatest biodiversity in the world. Over 15 million species of plants and animals live within this biome.
The hot and humid conditions make tropical rainforests an ideal environment for bacteria and other microorganisms. Because these organisms remain active throughout the year, they quickly decompose matter on the forest floor.

Nutrients

In other biomes, such as the deciduous forest, the decomposition of leaf litter adds nutrients to the soil. But in the tropical rainforest, plants grow so fast that they rapidly consume the nutrients from the decomposed leaf litter. As a result, most of the nutrients are contained in the trees and other plants rather than in the soil. Most nutrients that are absorbed into the soil are leached out by the abundant rainfall, which leaves the soil infertile and acidic.

HOW CAN WE SAVE RAINFORESTS?

Rainforests are disappearing very quickly. The good news is there are a lot of people who want to save rainforests. The bad news is that saving rainforests is not going to be easy. It will take the efforts of many people working together in order to ensure that rainforests and their wildlife will survive for your children to appreciate, enjoy, and benefit from.

Some steps for saving rainforests and, on a broader scale, ecosystems around the world can be abbreviated as TREES:
  • Teach others about the importance of the environment and how they can help save rainforests.
  • Restore damaged ecosystems by planting trees on land where forests have been cut down.
  • Encourage people to live in a way that doesn't hurt the environment
  • Establish parks to protect rainforests and wildlife
  • Support companies that operate in ways that minimize damage to the environment

Discussing Poverty

Is poverty a crime?

Poverty seems to be the only crime for many people, and many people worldwide are being forced to live in horrendous conditons because of poverty. There are many reasons as to why poverty comes knocking at someone's front door. It lingers there for however long because the victims are often too tired and too hungry to do anything much about it. They do require assistance to their problems, but in most all cases they cannot find anyone that is willing to help them.

Who is affected by poverty?

Poverty does not only affect people in the so called third world countries like India, Asia and Africa. Most people are misled to believe that this is true. In reality this misconception couldn't be further from the truth. The truth is that there are many homeless people living in poverty right here in North America... The United States, and in Canada too.

Rich or Poor Nations

In other words, a country can never be too rich to be considered poor when it comes to homeless people living and sleeping on the streets. These images are a cry for help that is often ignored by many segments of our society. In most cases the victims are continuously being blamed for their own misery, and this is flat out wrong. Starting here and now sometihing meaningful can be done to help the victims of homelessness and poverty. Are you willing to help by doing whatever you can to raise awareness?

What causes poverty?

The reasons for poverty are many, and the many faces of hunger are yet to be identified or be accounted for. However, people all over the world do know of homeless victims that are living and sleeping on the streets due to poverty. Rest assured that in order for any country, government, or politician to win the battle over poverty then preventative measures must be considered as the only means to a justifiable end to poverty.

Love Thyself

The recipe for love is a formula that has been tried and tested by many. Love is only for those who believes in love and is willing to work on the formula until successful results are produced, or obtained. A successful love relationship is one that is filled with love, love and more love. In order to receive love, love must be given at all times without any negative thoughts of witholding love. Love is an upliftment that never brings you down. Seek love, teach love, preach love, and accept love, for it is truly a blessing.

When love fails all else fails. If you fail to love yourself for being who you are, and loving yourself just the way you are then love becomes a heart break that eats you up inside. Avoid heartaches and pain, by learning how to love yourself first. Learn to speak from the heart. Remind yourself that the universe holds a special place in it just for you. No matter how long it takes for you to feel loved, you are still guaranteed the happiness that love has to offer.

Love knows no boundaries, and it is guaranteed to all without fail. True love can be found even when it is least expected to be found. It is a treasure waiting to be discovered. Knowing how to love yourself without being to hard on yourself is always the best way to discover love. Once love is discovered it is very difficult to hide it from others. Finding love from deep within moves a person in such a way that sharing the love is the only thing left to be desired. Love is lovely, so to thine own self be true...Love thyself and share your love always!

Celebrating March 17th 2012

How is St. Patrick's Day celebrated in Toronto?

For most Canadians, St. Patrick's Day celebrations are about all things Irish. People wear green, and often go to pubs and parties where they drink beer that has been dyed green and listen and dance to Irish music.

•Shamrocks are a plant leaf and are green with three parts (They are different from a four-leaf clover, which is considered lucky). The shamrock is a national symbol for Ireland, similar to how Canadians use the maple leaf!

•Leprechauns are part of Irish folklore. Usually drawn as small men with red beards and hair wearing green suits and a hat, leprechauns are thought to have hidden pots of gold. They are hard to catch and are able to disappear in the blink of an eye, but supposedly if you follow a rainbow you have a chance of finding a leprechaun and his treasure. If you're celebrating St. Patrick's Day with kids, explore some Leprechaun Craft Ideas from About.com: Family Crafts. (Learn more of the folklore from The Leprechaun webpage from the National Leprechaun Museum in Dublin, Ireland)

Irish Stew Recipe

Ireland's national dish is Irish stew. A traditional Irish stew was always made with mutton, but more often nowadays, is made with lamb. Controversy reigns over whether vegetables other than potatoes should be added; adding onions, leeks and carrots not only adds extra flavor but also nutrition to the stew. The choice is yours.

Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 2 hours, 20 minutes
Total Time: 2 hours, 40 minutesIngredients:
•2 tbsp vegetable oil
•1 lb/500g mutton or lamb cutlets (bone removed) cut into 2"/5cm chunks
•2lb/ 1 kg potatoes, peeled and cut into quarters
•1 cup/115g onion, roughly chopped
•1 cup/ 100g leeks, cleaned and finely sliced
•1 cup/170g carrots, roughly chopped
•1½ pints / 750 ml dark beef stock
•2 or 3 cabbage leaves, thinly sliced (optional)
•Salt and Pepper
Preparation:
Heat the oven to 350F/180C/ Gas 4
•In a large frying pan heat half the oil to hot but not smoking. Add half the lamb pieces and brown all over. Remove the lamb and place in a casserole, cover with a half of the potatoes, onions, leeks and carrots.
•Add the remaining oil to the frying pan, heat again then add the remaining lamb and brown all over. Add to the casserole and cover with the remaining vegetables.
•Add the stock, cover with a tight fitting lid, cook in the oven for 1 hour. Add the cabbage (if using) replace the lid and cook for another hour. Check from time to time to make sure the stock isn't reducing too much, if it is add a little boiling water. The meat and vegetables should always be covered by liquid. If the sauce is too runny at the end, cook a little longer with the lid removed. Season with salt and pepper.
Serve piping hot.

Jokes

Here’s to a long life and a merry one. A quick death and an easy one A pretty girl and an honest one A cold beer – and another one! ...

A passer-by watched two Irishmen in a park. One was digging holes and the other was immediately filling them in again. 'Tell me, 'said the passer-by, 'What on earth are you doing?' 'Well, 'said the digger, 'Usually there are three of us. I dig, Fergal plants the tree and Sean fills in the hole. Today Fergal is away unwell, but that doesn't mean Sean and I have to take the day off, does it?' ...
Having a good laugh is part of the fun when celebrating St. Patrick's Day.
